Avril Griessbach | Mold Mechanisms
Avril was an Industrial Design student who elected to take my Sophomore mold-making course - Mold Mechanisms - to enhance her work in ID.
Of all that I teach, this course is the most technically demanding. Over the first eight weeks, which are dedicated to exploration and skill-building, students are asked to complete a series of exercises. Alongside their work, they write journal entries and compile in-process images of their development. Theoretically, when they leave the class, this journal will serve as a field guide for mold-making that is written in a language they can understand. Their own.
Avril had no previous experience with plaster. She kept exceptional notes and documented everything. Here is her journal; it gives a rare glimpse into the developing mind of a student as they learn to work with plaster. All of this, mind you, took place over the course of eight weeks.
