Yuge, as an MFA candidate, was interested in exploring the ancient art of penjing (the Chinese discipline of depicting nature artistically in miniature) in a contemporary context. Her thesis was based on expanding these miniature landscapes into large-scale installations. These images tell the story of how subtle tile explorations developed into the slip-cast rock formations. These rock gardens were the foundation for her exhibition Indoor Garden.
